BridgeED Program

Preparing Students for Higher Education and University Life

Opening Doors to Higher Education

BridgeED was initially created to support KEP members and volunteers in identifying and applying for post-secondary opportunities. As the program grew, we opened it to other high school students in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement who are seeking opportunities to pursue higher education.

BridgeED helps students identify and apply for opportunities such as the Student Refugee Program, Elimisha Kakuma, Mastercard Foundation, Malengo, and other higher education and scholarship programs. We support applicants with writing and editing personal statements and resumes, as well as preparing for mock interviews. Students also receive resources and guidance to prepare for language proficiency tests, including the Duolingo English Test.

Our support extends beyond the application process. Students who receive scholarships or admission opportunities participate in pre-departure and transition sessions designed to help them prepare for life after high school. These sessions bring in individuals studying or working in fields related to the students’ interests, as well as people with experience living and studying in different parts of the world. Students learn about their prospective programs and fields of study, financial planning and money management, and the academic, cultural, and personal aspects of adapting to a new environment.

Program Main Goals

BridgeED helps high school graduates from Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement access higher education opportunities and prepare for a successful transition to university life.

The program supports students throughout the application process and continues to guide them after they receive a scholarship or admission opportunity.
